We switched to using explicit Mumble Client and Mumble Server naming to avoid confusion and increased consistency and obviousness. Additional sidebar, I have the app 'mumla' from F-droid on my android phone, and it has native text to speech. It is non-obvious that it is related to Mumble - in terms of use/software or project. Using Murmur is a branding disconnect that may lead to confusion. As a result, the package was called mumble-server on these distros - which is confusing when you see it as Murmur elsewhere and in the upstream source code/project and official project documentation.
There has always been an issue on Debian (and derivatives like Ubuntu) because a package called Murmur already existed (although I am surprised right now I can't find any on or - I guess it no longer exists). And a server doesn't make sense without clients. The server component is invisible to most. Most users will see and talk about Mumble. It's a clever wordplay between the words, but not particularly good for the project. In the long past Mumble was introduced as the client, and Murmur as the server.
They are the same server software project. Murmur has been renamed to Mumble Server.
